Day 9: Williamson turn

15 February 2023
Sargasso Sea

Without the stabilization of the sails, the Roald was rolling even heavier solely under motor, but luckily the rough sea settled down in the morning, allowing us to do the dishes during kitchen duty without getting seasick. After cleaning the kitchen, we had a few hours of free time. In the afternoon, the navigators practised man-overboard manoeuvres by tossing a drifting buoy into the water to simulate a person in distress. The navigation team then performed a Williamson turn to retrieve the buoy and bring it back on board.
